CSDC values love, openness, diversity, and respect between individuals and also when approaching new artistic experiences. A student’s educational experience is built on both our weekly core programs, and our capstone productions.
The core programs are designed for students to receive simultaneous training in ballet, tap and modern dance. We focus on building student athleticism, musicality, and self-expression. In addition to dance, students learn to work and collaborate with their peers, sewing and craft skills, public speaking, time management, and responsibility.
We create two capstone productions each season. During our Winter Portfolio Production, students are a part of the creative process of reinterpreting the traditional Nutcracker ballet story. Students help to develop the new storyline and sometimes collaborate to contribute their own choreography to the production. For our July Portfolio Production, students are a part of building a large scale and new original work. Pieces in the July Portfolio production range from educational topics and literary stories to abstract concepts.
The productions at CSDC focus on being aware of the importance of each individual's part within a production while at the same time understanding the importance of the group or show as a greater experience. Growing up at CSDC, and being involved in and understanding all aspects of a theatrical production, students learn patience, and respect for others of all backgrounds.
