Student Choreography Project 2025
at SCU Mayer Theater
Friday June 20, 7:00 PM
A one-time-only performance showcasing the work of Center Stage's Epaulement students. Fourteen students will present their original 1-2 minute pieces. Each student has carefully curated their music, developed a unique concept or theme, choreographed their piece, and taught it to a group of their peers during the Spring 2025 semester.
-Annual Performances-
The Winter Portfolio began as a small performance of selections from the Nutcracker Suite in which students in the Footlight, Quatrieme, and Epaulment Programs showcase their ballet technique each December. The performance has since developed to a parody performance based on the idea of the original nutcracker story to include modern, sometimes tap and student choreographed pieces. Past seasons have included parody themes such as Tooth-Cracker, Space-Cracker, Cheese-Cracker and Egg-Cracker. It's an annual performance you don't want to miss!
The June Portfolio Production is CSDC's largest show of each season. Each year a different theme (or multiple themes/stories) are chosen to structure the performance. Class dances overlap and interact with one another, additional rehearsals during the month of June are used to solidify the production. Costumes for these productions are constructed by the students, allowing them to develop their sewing and problem solving skills. Older students have the opportunity to perform featured roles through participation in Company Class.
Favorite themes from past seasons include: The Black Sheep Ballet (an original story about Lucy the black sheep who didn’t fit in with her flock and set out on an adventure of self discovery and acceptance), Legends of the American West (Stories of outlaw legends Billy the Kid, Annie Oakley, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and the James and Younger Gang), Black 47 (the story of the irish potato famine), The Human Brain (a modern piece with each dance embodying the functions of the different parts of the brain)...and many others!
