Saturday November 23rd 7pm at CSDC
Join the artists to talk about their work after their performance at the reception.
Three years ago we began a new project for a select group of our modern students. It was a small class of 6 students who each choreographed a dance for their peers to perform in a small show at our studio. We have since expanded our Student Choreography Project to involve three modern classes giving us a total of 39 young choreographers!
Four works will be presented this season at the SCP performance: Two explore the creativity inspired by limitations and choreographic restrictions, another is an abstract representation of the story of Cinderella, and the last is a group reflection on the obsession with money and physical beauty. Please join us for an evening of original work by these young artists!
Performance will take place in the back lot of the studio, plenty of space for everyone, just remember to dress warm!

Two years ago we began a new project in our advanced modern class. It was a small class of 6 students who each choreographed a dance for their peers to perform in a small show at the studio. We have since expanded our Student Choreography Project to involve three modern classes giving us a total of 34 choreographers!
This season we will have two performances to showcase their work, the November Student Choreography Project Saturday November 3rd, and the January Student Choreography Project Saturday January 19th.
November Student Choreography Project
The Thursday 5:30 modern class has been given a unique assignment for this years NSCP. The class was split into two groups who have been working collaboratively within their group to choreograph a narrative piece about pirates. Each student is given a specific section of the music during which they decide what their group does. They then must connect all of the pieces together to create a finished product. What makes this project extra exciting is that the two groups will perform to the same song at the same time but have not been able to see what the other group is doing during the creative process. The studio will stay separated by a curtain while each group finishes their choreography. The week before the performance the two groups will for the first time see the other groups choreography and will then collaborate to create an ending together.
The Thursday 8:00 modern class has been separated into 3 groups of 3. Each young lady has choreographed a duet for the other two dancers in their group which has been collaboratively pieced together with two other duets to create one long piece. The choreographers were not given any limitations besides the song and length of their duet which has resulted in a variety of characters, stories and styles of dance within one song. These choreographers have unintentionally created some wonderfully surrealistic work, one piece concluding with a sophisticate, a burglar, and a shape rowing a boat.
Please join us this weekend for a short showing of our young artists work, and stay tuned for information on our January Student Choreography Project!
You will be receiving your class assignment soon along with dress code reminders and changes! (We hope you still have your red leotard from the Portfolio Production)
Parents are asked to attend their dancers first class of the season. We are making a few changes (as we do every year) and it is important for you and your dancer to hear all the needed information together.
We are already planning out our “Songs from the Nutcracker” performance (We hope you still have your white leotard from the Portfolio Production) and we are excited to begin dancing again!
All classes are full at this time but have any questions regarding classes please don’t hesitate to email us at email@example.com. Once the class assignments are sent out, it is very unlikely changes will be made.
See you all soon!
